As a bridal hair stylist, I have the privilege of working with numerous brides, mothers, and bridesmaids, each with their unique vision for their special day. While many clients arrive with a clear idea of their desired hairstyle, others ask for recommendations to find the perfect look that complements their hair type and wedding dress.! I have previously mentioned that it can often get overwhelming to choose from hundreds of hairstyles, so it never hurts to ask for help! Considering the style of your dress can play a factor in your choice of hairstyle! Based on past and current trends, I have compiled some tips and tricks for using your dress to help guide you in choosing your hairstyle!
One of the trending styles this wedding season is a backless dress! Some of these styles are completely open in the back, partially open, or have detailing to give an illusion of a fully open back. Depending on your level of comfort, you can either choose an updo or a half-up style. An updo will show off the open back of the dress, while a half-up style will cover the back. I personally love an updo with an open-back dress to show it off, but you should consider what hairstyle you will be most comfortable in! A ponytail would be a perfect in-between option if you would like to keep the hair up but still show off the length!

If you have a wedding dress with sleeves and a lot of embellishments, I would recommend a more simple style whether you choose to wear your hair up or down! I would refrain from adding in braids to your style IF you would like the focal point to remain the dress. I have seen dresses with sleeves as a trend in the winter wedding season and wearing an all down hairstyle with voluminous is very beautiful as well!

A trending summer dress style is the strapless/ sweetheart neckline dress. This dress style shows off your collarbones and shoulders so depending on your level of comfort, both an updo and a half up style would compliment this style dress. I personally love half up styles and high buns to show off the neckline! If you are more comfortable wearing your hair down, you can opt for a half up style and leave your hair tucked behind your shoulders to show off the dress! If your dress has a lot of details, I would suggest a more simple style, maybe with some clean texture if you would like to add interest to the style!
One shoulder dresses are also a very common style especially among bridesmaids! This style gives a beautiful asymmetrical look and you could choose between showing off this asymmetrical look with an updo or softening the balance with a half up hairstyle. Wearing an updo with a one shoulder dress will give a more formal look as opposed to a more relaxed look from a half up style. I would not recommend a side bun with this dress style because the bun will fall when it touches your shoulder as you turn your head, but a side pony or a braid would balance the look beautifully!
There are so many different factors to consider when choosing your hairstyle and comfort should definitely be your top priority! These are some of the trends and styles I have noticed in recent wedding seasons to help guide you in choosing a hairstyle that you will feel comfortable in and compliment your overall look!
